Formaldehyde is come in hazardous chemicals list it is actually biocide. In Dynea Pakistan formaldehyde is synthesis from methanol partial oxidation, so in the discharge stream (drain) there is presence of methanol and formaldehyde. These chemical have high COD and required series of upstream pre –treatment. Since formaldehyde is strong oxidizing agent high concentration inhibits the growth of nitrifying bacteria so it required pre-treatment before feed to biological tank.
